Apply a text replacement to existing text: To use the text replacement in part of a document, select the text, choose Edit Substitutions Show Substitutions, make sure the Text Replacement checkbox is selected, then click Replace in Selection. To use the text replacement in the entire document, click Replace All.
You can use the Find control in code or text windows, such as Output windows and Find Results windows, by selecting Edit Find and Replace or pressing Ctrl+F.
Navigate to your Applications folder and double-click TextEdit.
Find and replace text in a TextEdit document. In the TextEdit app on your Mac, choose Edit Find Find, then type text in the search field. You can also select text, then choose Edit Find Use Selection for Find.
Replace found text Click. Click pop-up menu to the left of the search field, then choose Find Replace. Enter a word or phrase in the first field. Enter the replacement word or phrase in the second field. Use the buttons at the bottom of the Find Replace window to review and change the text matches:
Undo the last action: Choose Edit Undo (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen), or press Command-Z on your keyboard. Redo the last action you undid: Choose Edit Redo, or press Command-Shift-Z.
If you want to use a graphical text editor, use TextEdit (in Launchpad). Otherwise, use one of the command-line editors included with macOS: Nano nano is a simple command-line editor. Its a good introduction to using a command-line editor because it includes easy-to-follow on-screen help.
You can edit plain text files using any text editor, including the Macs built-in TextEdit. Dont use a word processor like Microsoft Word because it will introduce hidden formatting codes that are not suitable for plain text files. You can also use command line programs to edit shell configuration files.
