Click on the PDF file to open it in the browser. Once the PDF file is open, click on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the browser window. From the dropdown menu, select Convert PDF to Word.
Microsoft Word is likely automatically opening the PDF after saving in the default PDF reader on your machine (which is presumably Brave). When saving as a PDF file, in the Save dialogue of Microsoft Word, untick the box for Open file after publishing.
PDF file handling options Go to Options Applications, then find the listing for Portable Document Format (PDF). Under the Action column, youll see that its set for Preview in Firefox. Click the drop-down list to select an alternate PDF viewer.
Check default program settings: Right-click on a PDF file on your computer and select Open With from the context menu. Choose Choose another app or Open With Choose default program. Make sure that Microsoft Word is not selected as the default program for opening PDFs.
If it only happens with Microsoft Word, you should check its default encoding settings. Go to File and select Options. Then, choose Advanced and scroll down until you find the General category. Here, you can change the default file format and Plain Text file encoding.
To open a PDF file without converting it to a Word document, open the file directly wherever its stored (for example, double-click the PDF file in your Documents folder). However, if you want to edit the PDF file, go ahead and open it in Word.
The only way to prevent a PDF from being converted to Word is to use PDF DRM software. While you can password protect a PDF, once a user has been given the open password they can easily remove any restrictions and do what they want with it.
Once the PDF file is open, click on the More button located at the top right corner of the page. From the drop-down menu, choose the Add Password option. A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to enter a password for the PDF file. Choose a strong and unique password that you can remember.
