Go to Layout Page Setup Header Footer. Under Header or Footer, on the pop-up menu, select (none).
In most cases, when you cant edit the header or footer, the reason is that the content isnt supported for editing in Word Online. You should be able to download the document to your local drive, though.

On the View tab, select the Print Layout document view. Double click the header area on the page 1 of the document to open the Header Footer Tools design tab. In the Options group, select the check box for Different First Page. Close the header/footer design tab.
Edit your existing headers and footers Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following: When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
Click the File tab and then click Info in the left pane. Click Protect Document and choose Restrict Editing from the dropdown (Figure C). Word will return to the document and display the editing options in the Restrict Editing pane. Check the second option and choose No Changes (Read Only) from the dropdown (Figure D).
