To export active text from Illustrator, use the Type tool to select the type, and choose File Export Export As. In the Export dialog box, choose Text Format (TXT) from the dropdown list of items, select a location to save the file, enter a filename, and click OK.

Some CDR files can open in Illustrator, but only when produced in CorelDraw versions 5 to 10. It is unlikely that anyone would use such old files, as Corel Draw version 10 was released in October 2000. The answer to the question of whether Illustrator can open CDR files is therefore yes, but this is rarely the case.
