Hi everyone, my name is Kevin. Today I want to show you how you can insert a table of contents into Microsoft Word. And as full disclosure before we jump into this, I work at Microsoft as a full-time employee. Im required to say that by HR anytime I talk about our products. So imagine that you have a school report that youre working on, or maybe youre turning in a project for work, and youve got lots of pages and lots of sections in there. Well, a table of contents can make it easier to get back to the content that people want to refer back to. So how do you do that? Its actually easier than you think. And Ive pulled up a sample school report here. I know Ive been out of school for a little while, but brings back memories when I jump into this. Lets jump on my PC and Ill show you how to do this. Here I am on my PC, and I am working on an important school report. And yes, I did not copy any of this from Wikipedia. Although if I were to turn this in,

Create the table of contents Put your cursor where you want to add the table of contents. Go to References Table of Contents. If you make changes to your document that affect the table of contents, update the table of contents by right-clicking the table of contents and choosing Update Field.
Table of Contents Format Title the page Table of Contents and center the title at the top of the page. Use an outline format for the different sections of your paper. All main headings should be flush-left. Sub-headings should be indented five spaces. All entries should use title case.
The problem is that only if the entire paragraph is formatted as a heading will it be included in the TOC. The easiest way to make sure that you apply the Linked heading style to the entire paragraph is to NOT select any word or phrase in the heading paragraph.
To create a manual table, go to References Table of Contents Click the dropdown to reveal the option for Manual Table. Microsoft Word inserts a TOC with placeholders which you can now edit. You can modify this with your own fonts and colors. Do remember that you also have to insert the page numbers manually too.
There are four parts to this: Plan. If youre going to implement, then you need an implementation plan. Milestones. Milestones mark major phases in the project and collect smaller tasks into bigger chunks of work. Dependencies. List all key dependencies and what their importance is to the project. Resource Plan.
In most cases, the project charter is written by the project manager. However, there is one more key player in preparing this document- the sponsor. The sponsor is the main initiator and supporter of the project. This is usually a high role executive that sees real value and purpose for the project to go through.
Insert a Table of Contents Click in the document where you want to insert a Table of Contents. Click the References tab on the ribbon. Click the Table of Contents button. Select a table of contents style.
A good project charter contains the following information: Project purpose or justification. Measurable project objectives and related success criteria. High level requirements. Assumptions and constraints. High-level project description and boundaries. High-level risks. Summary milestone schedule. Summary budget.
If you want to mark text for inclusion in a table of contents without it having a heading style assigned to it, you must use TC fields and then set the Table of Contents to be built from Table Entry fields by selecting that method after clicking on the Options button in the Table of Contents dialog. -- Hope this helps.
project plans. A project charter should only include three elements: your project objectives, scope, and responsibilities. Once your charter has been approved, you should then create a project plan.
