hey everyone this is Colin Rupert with safe harbor inspections and here we are in a house from the 1950s and this is something that we see pretty often and this is called the screw jack which is basically a temporary post and and what these are designed for is you put this into place while youre going to replace a more permanent part of the structure or more permanent column and then these usually come back out well what we see all the time is these go into place to either jack up a floor to make it level again or because the old wood posts rotted out and they get left there and they get left there for 20 30 40 years which is a pretty long time and the problem with this type of a post is if you look closely youll see theres a pin here Drive that goes through a set of holes and thats what keeps the lower part of this column and the upper part of this column in place and then at the top youve got a screw that you can tighten up against the structure so it works really well for temp

Never use cleaners such as Pine-Sol, ammonia, vinegar, or bleach as they will dull, discolor or etch polished concrete and stained concrete floors.
Can you have polished concrete outdoors? Yes. For outdoors however we would not normally recommend a Mechanically Polished Concrete, as when wet it can be slippery. The alternative for these areas is honed concrete.
The only thing to consider with polished concrete is its porous nature, and, so an effective sealant is absolutely essential to prolong the life of your floors! Lets explore how to preserve concrete as well as enhance its finish here is a list of common questions plus our handy sealing tips.
Mop on an anti-slip grip additive such as SlipDoctors Polish Grip. Theres no quicker or easier solution than a slip-resistant coating to make wet surfaces safer.
Polished concrete flooring is relatively easy to maintain. You just have to dust mop or broom sweep daily to prevent dirt accumulation. You should also damp mop it weekly to remove smudging, scuffs, and water marks, and restore gloss.
Polishing is completed with the same concrete grinder, but with higher-grit diamond tooling attached to it. Polishing usually begins with around a 100-grit to 200-grit diamond, and finishes with an 800-grit or 1500-grit diamond.
Polished concrete is (generally) NOT slippery when wet. The way that water interacts with the porous surface can even provide a bit of extra grip for ones shoe. (By the same , though, the porous surface of polished concrete means that water doesnt wipe up as easily, leaving a temporary damp spot.)
Almost any structurally sound concrete floor, whether new or old, can be polished. However there are some exceptions, for example with new floors no special mix design is required to achieve good results although the floor should be in place at least 28 days before polishing begins to ensure adequate curing.
Use Epoxy to Get a Silky Smooth Surface with High Sheen You can also apply an epoxy resin coating to the surface of the concrete.
Youd be happy to know that any concrete surface can be ground back and polished up. This may be a less risky option to pouring a new slab over an existing one. The look of the finished floors will still depend on the condition of the slab, but its possible to achieve a natural concrete look.
