Wisconsin Statutes and local codes require building permits for the following residential or commercial activities: 1. All new buildings and additions to existing buildings. 2. Anytime there is a structural change to an existing building.
Work Not Requiring A Permit Asphalt or gravel driveways. Awnings (wall mounted only) Exterior work under $15000 - Non Structural Only. Interior work under $15000 - Non Structural Only. Non-residential farm buildings. Non-structural slab (no footers for future building construction) Painting private residences.
You need a building permit for all construction that involves the construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, movement to another site, removal, or demolition of any building or structure. All electrical, plumbing and mechanical work needs a separate permit for each trade.
Current Law: North Carolina law currently requires any building construction or alteration project costing $30,000 or more to be superintended (supervised and managed) by a general contractor licensed in this state.
North Carolina grants owners an exemption to act as their own general contractor if they meet the following requirements. The property MUST be listed in your name. The property CANNOT be for rent, lease or sale for one year after the project is completed.
SPECIAL LAND USE PERMIT (SLUP) a privilege granted by the State to a person to temporarily occupy, possess and manage in consideration of specified return, any public forest lands for a specific use or purpose.
Failing to obtain a permit when required may result in substantial fines or being ordered to remove the offending project or incur costs to docHub compliance with the applicable codes; it depends. What may surprise licensees is how many seemingly minor improvements/repairs may require a permit.

You can get a permit to do plumbing or mechanical work provided: You own and live in the house (must show proof) You sign an affidavit of ownership and terms of permits and inspections.
The licensing boards in the State of North Carolina and the General Statutes allow a homeowner to obtain a permit to perform the work on their own home by meeting certain criteria.
