The vertical resolution (number of horizontal lines) on a TV or computer screen. The term typically is used with TVs; for example, HDTVs have 720 or 1,080 lines, while analog TVs used 525 or 625 lines, several of which were invisible between frames.
Just to clarify a little - 800 lines of horizontal resolution or TVL means that as the electron beam scans horizontally, it can resolve 800 changes from black to white per picture height (not screen width).
TVL is defined as the maximum number of alternating light and dark vertical lines that can be resolved per picture height. A resolution of 400 TVL means that 200 distinct dark vertical lines and 200 distinct white vertical lines can be counted over a horizontal span equal to the height of the picture.
In the case of a monitor with an industry-standard Full HD 1080p resolution, this display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This means that the screen will have a width of 1,920 pixels while the height of the screen will be 1,080 pixels. This results in a grand total of 2,073,600 pixels on-screen.
720p is the standard high-definition (HD) display resolution of 1280x720 pixels, with progressive scanning, at a 16x9 aspect ratio. 720p improved on the 480i and 480p of standard definition terrestrial television (SDTV).
Aspect RatioResolution1.33 (4:3)1536 x 11521.66 (5:3)1920 x 11521.78 (16:9)2048 x 11521.852048 x 11079 more rows
And no, 1024 X 768 is not 16:9, its 4:3. 16:9 would be 1024 X 576.
nHD: 640 x 360 pixels; qHD: 960 x 540 pixels; full HD (FHD or 1080p): 1920 x 1080 pixels; QHD (WQHD): 2560 x 1440 pixels.
D1 CCTV resolution is 704 x 480 pixels and is the highest resolution the CCTV system can record at. High end digital video recorders offer this resolution and only the highest end recorders can offer D1 resolution at 30 frames per second recording.
If you divide 1024 by 768, the result is 1.33, so the 1024x768 computer resolution can be described as having an aspect ratio of 1.33:1.
