Follow these steps: Click on the Insert tab on the toolbar. In Header Footer click on Header then click on Blank. On the first (title) page of your paper at the left margin type: ABBREVIATED TITLE IN UPPER CASE. Tab once or twice to right margin. Close the Header Footer.
The title page should also include a page header and page numbers. The running head should be in the upper left-hand corner of the paper, and the page numbers should be in the upper right-hand corner.
Formatting the First Page of Your Paper In the upper left-hand corner of the first page, list your name, your instructors name, the course, and the date. Again, be sure to use double-spaced text. Double space again and center the title. Do not underline, italicize, or place your title in quotation marks.
Keep the heading double-spaced, in the same font as the rest of your paper. Left-align the first four lines (they should start at the 1-inch margin on the left side of your paper) Center the title (it should appear in the middle of your paper) Make sure your title is in title case.
Formatting an MLA Heading The heading information starts at the 1-inch margin. Its in the upper left-hand corner of your paper, double spaced, and in a readable font. After your heading, you include the title of your paper, centered in title case.
Double-click the header or the footer area (near the top or bottom of the page). Go to Header Footer Field. In the Field names list, Select Page, and then select OK. To change the numbering format, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers.
Headers for all required pages must be consistently formatted; they should be the same size, font, and style, and located in the same position on each page. They must start at the very top of the page, on the first line below the 1-inch margin.
Answer Click on the Insert tab. Click on Page Number in the Header Footer group. Choose the location of page number (usually top of page). The header will open and the page number is inserted. Your name and subsequent page numbers will now appear on all pages of your document.
A header is text that is placed at the top of a page, while a footer is placed at the bottom, or foot, of a page. Typically these areas are used for inserting document information, such as the name of the document, the chapter heading, page numbers, creation date and the like.
Type the text you want into a Word document. Select a sentence that you want to add a header to. Select Home Styles (or press Alt+H, then L), and then select the heading you want, such as the Heading 1 button.
