An interpunct ⟨⟩, also known as an interpoint, middle dot, middot and centered dot or centred dot, is a punctuation mark consisting of a vertically centered dot used for interword separation in ancient Latin script.
An interpunct is a small dot used for interword separation in ancient Latin script, being perhaps the first consistent visual representation of word boundaries in written language. The dot is vertically centered, e.g. DONAEISREQUIEM, and is therefore also called a middle dot or centered dot.
Within a dictionary entry, the dots that break up a word are known as end-of-line division dots. These dots indicate where the word can be broken if it doesnt fit on a line of text. These dots do not indicate the possible syllable breaks of the word; syllable breaks are shown with hyphens in the pronunciation.
In some countries, such as Germany, the primary symbol for multiplication is the dot operator (as in ab). This symbol is also used in algebraic notation to resolve ambiguity (for instance, b times 2 may be written as b2, to avoid being confused with a value called b2).

The ellipsis (/ɪˈlɪpsɪs/, also known informally as dot dot dot) is a series of dots that indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning. The plural is ellipses.
To type the dot symbol on your keyboard, turn on the numeric keypad by pressing NumLk , hold Alt and press the 0 , 1 , 4 , and 9 keys in succession. If you dont type the numbers with the numeric keypad, the dot symbol will not show.
