WHAT IS RESOLUTION? The images resolution is the number of pixels divided by the size it is being viewed at so if the image is 720 pixels wide by 720 pixels tall, and its being viewed at 10 inches square, it has a resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
While a higher printer resolution can produce a better quality print, the print resolution does not refer to an images size or digital resolution. Instead, this measurement only determines the ink droplets potential density.
Its best to look at the pixel dimension of your images as youre making them. As long as theyre at least about 1024 pixels wide (for a horizontal image) they should be fine for teaching. The standard resolution for web images is 72 PPI (often called screen resolution).
An image with 640x480 resolution will be displayed on a monitor as 640/72=8.9 inches by 480/72=6.7 inches, or 8.9 x 6.7 inches in size.
This means that the more dots per inch (dpi), the higher the print resolution. For example, a 300 dpi printer can print 300 dots per inch of page space, whereas a 600 dpi printer can print double that amount, creating a much higher quality print.
Professional/online printing For an 8 x 10 print, the image resolution should be 1536 x 1024 pixels minimum. For a 16 x 20 print, the image resolution should be 1600 x 1200 pixels minimum. For a 20 x 30 print, the image resolution should be 1600 x 1200 pixels minimum.
Step-by-Step Tutorial Open your PowerPoint file. Select a slide that contains an image or picture. Select the image or picture. Click the Picture Format ribbon at the top of the screen. Click Compress Pictures (to the right of the Transparency icon). Click the Picture Quality drop-down and choose On-Screen (150 ppi).
What is a high-resolution JPEG? A high-resolution JPEG is an image that is typically 300 DPI (dots per inch) or higher. While its file size may be larger, it can be ideal for those wanting to save a photograph or art piece and retain detail and quality.
Higher resolutions mean that there more pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in more pixel information and creating a high-quality, crisp image. Images with lower resolutions have fewer pixels, and if those few pixels are too large (usually when an image is stretched), they can become visible like the image below.
High fidelity: preserves quality of the original picture. HD (330 ppi): good quality for high-definition (HD) displays. Print (220 ppi): excellent quality for most printers and screens. Web (150 ppi): good for web pages and projectors.
