hey everyone in this quick video i would like to teach you how to use custom number formatting to properly format telephone numbers this is useful when you have a big group spreadsheet where you want people to enter the information such as emails phone numbers addresses and stuff like that and it can be kind of annoying when someone enters a phone number that just looks like this for example and its just 10 numbers in a row and its really not pleasing to look at and then someone else will enter it more like this and it just makes it look different not consistent so were gonna figure out how to create that format so that when someone enters their number just the numbers it will show up the way we want it to so lets take that first phone number five five five five five five one two three four and its pretty simple uh were gonna hit format while clicking on the cell hit format number more formats and then custom number format and youre just going to type in parentheses hashtag hash

Highlight the phone numbers from the helper column and select Copy from the right-click menu. Choose the original column phone number values, right-click, select Paste special, and Paste values only. Google Sheets will populate the original column with unformatted phone numbers.
To format phone numbers in the US, Canada, and other NANP (North American Numbering Plan) countries, enclose the area code in parentheses followed by a nonbreaking space, and then hyphenate the three-digit exchange code with the four-digit number.
Copy Paste Without Changing Format in Excel Google Sheets First, select the data you want to copy (C2:C7), then right-click it, and from the drop-down menu choose Copy (or use CTRL + C shortcut). Then, select the range to paste without formatting, right-click on it, and in the drop-down menu click on Paste Special.
You can do this by selecting the cell containing the unformatted phone number and then clicking on the Format button in the main toolbar. In the drop-down menu, select Number and then click on Custom number format. In the textbox, you can enter the number format.
Tap and hold a selected column or row and then drag the selected data wherever you like.
Go to the spreadsheet with the data or create a new Google Sheet and click the Add-ons - Phone Validation - Start. Step 3. Add the data headers (Phone number and Validation data), and select an appropriate country from the drop-down menu.
Set the cell format to Text in order to insert a phone number. When you now type a phone number, it should be recognized as text automatically and therefore the leading 0 or + remain. Setting the cell format to text usually also works for entering a phone number in Excel.
