Use the left mouse key, and then drag down, and then take your cursor up to the ruler. Youll see a horizontal line and a triangle right now. They act together so just left click on them anywhere and drag them to the right half an inch. Youll know it

To customize indents with the Ruler: Place the insertion point anywhere in the text or paragraph you want to indent (you can select one or more paragraphs). Click and drag the desired indent marker. As the marker moves, the blue guide line extends from the Ruler. Release the mouse at the desired location.
What youre seeing is a hanging indent. You need to first remove the hanging indent formatting before you can set your default Normal style. To do that, put your cursor in a paragraph with the hanging indent, and press Ctrl + \ or go to Format Clear formatting.
If the next line in your Google Drives document automatically indents when you end a paragraph, you probably have the First-Line Indent feature set. This feature separately configures the first lines indention from subsequent lines left margin, so paragraphs optionally begin with an indented first line.
To change text indentation settings in Google Docs: Open your Google Docs document. Go to Format Align and Indent Indentation Options. On the Indentation Options dialog, change the default text indentation for both left and right.
