Open the document, click the More button in the toolbar, then choose Set Password. Type a password and password hint, then click Set Password. A secure symbol appears in the documents thumbnail in the document manager.
Take these steps to split a PDF on your Mac using Preview: Open your PDF in the Preview app. Open the thumbnail view and select the page or pages you would like to separate. Drag and drop the pages to your desktop or to another folder.
Lock a document on Mac Lock a closed document: Select it in a Finder window or on the desktop, choose File Get Info, click the arrow next to General, then select Locked. Lock an open document: Hold the pointer to the right of the document title in the toolbar, click the down arrow , then select Locked.
If you have the password and just want to save it as an unlocked . pdf, just open the password protected file (with the password) in Preview, choose Save, and change the name (dont select encrypt). The new . pdf file created should open without a password.
Require a password to open a document Choose File Set Password (from the File menu at the top of your screen), enter the requested information, then click Set Password.
In the Finder on your Mac, open a window, then Control-click the item you want to encrypt in the sidebar. Choose Encrypt [item name] from the shortcut menu. Create a password for the disk and click Encrypt Disk. Important: Be sure to record and keep this password in a safe place.

Open the PDF document. On a Mac, this will open the preview app. Using the thumbnail views, scroll down to the first page that you want to save separately from your PDF. Drag and drop the single page from the thumbnail of the PDF to your Mac desktop.
