Storing Unframed Artwork Instead, carefully wrap the artwork in glassine an air and water resistant product. Position the wrapped artwork between two pieces of a sturdy material slightly larger than the artwork itself, such as foam board, cardboard or plywood, and secure it with tape.

Cut a piece of cardboard or foam board slightly larger than the frame, place it over the glass and secure it with packing tape. Wrap the entire piece in two or more sheets of packing paper and tape loose ends. If you want, add a layer of Bubble Wrap for additional padding and security. Secure with packing tape.

Wrap your painting with bubble wrap. Make sure the wrap is tight, leaving no air pockets between the art piece and protective material. Fold the open ends over the back of the painting, then tape the bubble wrap shut with packing tape. For extra protection, wrap your painting with multiple layers of bubble wrap.
