hello everyone mike rempel from excel bytes with todays excel bytes blog post have you ever had a situation when you go to sort a range of data in excel and excel includes the header row in your sorting well lets take a look at a couple different ways we can deal with that in excel so here i have a scenario where i have a data range and i want to sort this data by location now normally i should just be able to click into that column of the data range go to the data tab and click a to z or z to a depending if i want it to be in ascending or descending order and it should sort all the data based on that so if i go ahead and click that it sorts it but notice it included the headers in that sorting process well one reason that that could happen is because you have a blank in one of your headers and that confuses excel it doesnt exactly know if thats truly a header row or not so if i put a header in here ill put description now when i go to do that same thing click a to z notice excel

Using Headings Use headings hierarchically , with the representing the most important idea on the page, and sub-sections organized with level headings. Those sub-sections can themselves be divided with level headings, and so on. It is best to plan out a heading structure before composing a page.
How you order headings dictates how a screen reader will navigate through them. As you go down a level, the number should increase by one, like a numbered list within an outline. If headings arent used in the proper order, it makes it harder for someone using a screen reader to understand the content.
An Incorrect Heading Order error means your heading structure has skipped over a level. For example, if your page structure has a level 3 heading () under a level 1 heading ( ), an Incorrect Heading Order error will be flagged because there is no h2 tag between the H1 and H2.
HTML defines six levels of headings, and these heading elements are H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6. The H1 element is the highest or most important level, and the H6 element is the least important. These different heading levels help to communicate the organization and hierarchy of the content on a page.
Adding Headings and Subheadings To Your Content # Section headings and subheadings should be organized in a hierarchy, with Section Heading (h2) first, followed by subheadings in order (Section Subheading (h3) will nestle under Section Heading (h2), Detailed Subheading (h4) under Section Subheading (h3), etc.).

HTML header tags follow a hierarchy, from to . H1 tags are used to denote the most important text, such as the main theme or title of a content. H2 and H3 tags are commonly used as subheadings. Finally, H4, H5, and H6 tags may be used to provide further structure within those subsections.

2. A header or heading is text at the top of a page in an electronic document or hard copy. For example, in Microsoft Word, a header could be created in a document to display the page number of each page. By contrast, a footer is at the bottom of a page in an electronic document or hard copy.
