make sure youre using headings in your Google document this not only makes your document more accessible for screen readers it also helps populate the document outline so notice in my document Im going to change this style up here from normal text to title and here Im going to change it from normal text to subtitle and coming down I have these headings I want to do heading 1 and a subheading of heading 2 and then over here on the left it says show document outline and you can see that the headings have automatically populated those sections and when I click on it it jumps to that section

Remove or adjust header or footer properties by section On your computer, open a document in Google Docs. Double-click the header or footer you want to remove. On the right, click Options. Remove header or Remove footer.
Add a header or footer Open a document in the Google Docs app. Tap Edit . In the top right, tap More . Turn on Print Layout. Tap the header or footer. Type the text you want in your header or footer.
Change a Style Using Quick Styles Select the heading text in your document. Click the Home tab. Click the heading style that you want to apply in the Styles section. Click the Change Styles button in the Styles section. Hover your mouse over Style Set to expand the menu.
Under Header or Footer, on the pop-up menu, select (none). Go to Insert Header Footer. On the top right side of the document, select Options Remove Headers Footers.
Apply a formatting style that is not a heading level. Using the mouse, drag the body text indicator (the small plus sign to the left of the heading) to the right. Drag it far enough that you pass through all nine heading levels, which is necessary before the paragraph is changed to body text.
To remove styles using the Styles task pane, select the text from which you want to remove the style. Click the Styles launcher button in the Styles button group of the Home tab to launch the Styles pane. Then choose the Clear All choice from the list of styles shown in the Styles pane.
CTRL-SPACE removes character-level formatting from the selected text (fonts, italics/bold, font size, etc.) but leaves paragraph formatting (indents, line spacing, etc.) intact. CTRL-Q leaves fonts and other character formatting intact but reverts paragraph-level formatting to Normal Style of current document.
