To edit a Symbol, select it on the Canvas and press ⌘ ⏎ , or select Layer Edit Symbol.
In the graphics window, right-click one or more symbols of the same type, and then select the appropriate edit option: Edit Definition to modify the original symbol sketch. All instances of the symbol update with the changes.
To edit a symbol, simply double click on the symbol to send it into isolation mode. Edit the symbol as you would a normal Illustrator object. You may change the colors, the path, add shapes and images and so on. Remember, if you have other instances of that symbol, all instances will change too.

Select an instance of the symbol on the Stage, and right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh), and select Edit from the context menu. Select an instance of the symbol on the Stage and select Edit Edit Symbols.
