Within Microsoft Word (Microsoft 365 subscribers): Open the document in Microsoft Word. Look at the title bar where the file name is displayed. Double-click on the file name. Youll be able to edit the name directly in the title bar.
Change the author name only in the current file On the File tab, select Info, and then, on the right, look for Author under Related People. Right-click the author name, and then select Edit Property. Type a new name in the Edit person dialog box.

You can then type a new name for your file and press enter to finish renaming it. A quicker way to rename a file is by first selecting it by left clicking on it, then pressing the F2 key.
