hi Ben from action step here in this video Im going to show you how calculated merge fields work in action step calculated merge fields allow you to create new merge fields in your system these calculations use a coding language called PHP and can be simple or complex depending on your knowledge of PHP however even simple codes can be very useful first lets create a new calculated merge field navigate to admin document templates and click on the list of merge fields if you want to edit an existing merge field just search for it using the filter and click on its name to open it to create a new one click this button here on the next screen give it a name and description this will be the name of the merge field you enter into your documents the calculation code is where you enter in PHP code well come back to this later the next option allows you to search your system for a record to test the calculated merge field you are creating and work similar to the document merge testing tool to
