To do this, we press I (Insert) to start editing. After were done, we press Esc, followed by :, W, and Q. The : is used to enter commands, the W to save the file (write) and the Q to quit the editor.
How to edit files in Linux Press the ESC key for normal mode. Press i Key for insert mode. Press :q! keys to exit from the editor without saving a file. Press :wq! Keys to save the updated file and exit from the editor. Press :w test. txt to save the file as test. txt.
If youre working with Linux-based products, you may need to edit configuration files to make changes or updates to your system. Fortunately, you can modify configuration files directly on the Linux machine by using the command line.
In simple words you can create single or multiple files using Touch Command. Now the files are created you may use the cat command as catfilename. txt to edit them and once edited exit using CTRL + D .
