In Linux, we can usually display a files modified date or timestamp by listing its parent directory. The other common way to get this information is by using the stat command. Sometimes, it might be handy or more efficient to display this information while searching for files.
Heres a breakdown of this command: -type f: locates all files in the directory. -exec ls -t1 {} +: executes the ls command with -t flag to sort the files by modification time, with the most recent file appearing on top. head -1: prints the first line.
File Explorer has a convenient way to search recently modified files built right into the Search tab on the Ribbon. Switch to the Search tab, click the Date Modified button, and then select a range. If you dont see the Search tab, click once in the search box and it should appear.
-mtime n is an expression that finds the files and directories that have been modified exactly n days ago. In addition, the expression can be used in two other ways: -mtime +n = finds the files and directories modified more than n days ago. -mtime -n = finds the files and directories modified less than n days ago.
How to edit files in Linux Press the ESC key for normal mode. Press i Key for insert mode. Press :q! keys to exit from the editor without saving a file. Press :wq! Keys to save the updated file and exit from the editor. Press :w test. txt to save the file as test. txt.
Use the usermod command to modify user details. For example: sudo usermod -l newusername oldusername to change the username. The -l flag specifies the new username.
To rename files in Linux, connect to your remote server using Terminal or an SSH client. Then, use the mv or rename command to change the file name. Both work similarly, but rename provides more flexibility. You can also use these commands to rename multiple files simultaneously.
