In the Forms Designer, right-click the field or control for which you want to create a validation formula, then click Properties. Click the Validation tab in the Properties dialog box. Select the Validate this field before closing the form check box.
Right-click the form that you want to change, and then click Layout View. Right-click the control that you want to change, and then click Properties to open the property sheet for the control. Click the All tab, and then enter your validation rule in the Validation Rule property box.
Custom attributes For scenarios that the built-in validation attributes dont handle, you can create custom validation attributes. Create a class that inherits from ValidationAttribute, and override the IsValid method. The IsValid method accepts an object named value, which is the input to be validated.
If you add a validation rule to an existing table, you might want to test the rule to see whether any existing data is not valid. Open the table that you want to test in Design View. On the Table Design tab, in the Tools group, click Test Validation Rules. Click Yes to close the alert message and start the test.
To remove a certain data validation rule, select any cell with that rule, open the Data Validation dialog window, check the Apply these changes to all other cells with the same settings box, and then click the Clear All button.
Configuring Validation Rules On the Constraint Rule Condition Detail page, in the Criteria section, from Product Scope, select Product. In Product, enter Product A as the product and in the Match Conditions section, select Match in Primary Lines and click Save.
Type the Gender validation rule into the Validation Rule box as shown in the record type. This will prevent any value other than M or F from being entered. You should also add a brief error message in the Validation Text box, something like Value must be M or F. Likewise with the Class validation rule.
Validation rule is a field property used to specify and define conditions that limit values that can be entered in a particular field. Validation text is a message that is displayed when data entered in that field does not conform to the validation rule or it is violated.
