So, how do I determine when the last time my MCS-150 was updated? One easy way is to go to the FMCSA safer website. Enter your DOT # then look at your company snapshot. You will see your FMCSA Form Date on the left side of the report.
Paper MCS 150 form updates will take 1 to 2 months to process and show in the FMCSA system. Of course, you can hire a DOT compliance company, like us, to do this for you too!
The FMCSA requires all motor carriers to update their Motor Carrier Identification Report (MCS-150) every 24 months but as a participant in PRISM, Wisconsin and many other states now require this to be updated when renewing your IRP plates (every year).
The biennial update is a requirement set by the FMCSA to update your MCS-150 Form (also called the Motor Carrier Identification Report) every two years, keep in mind some states actually require you to update it every year as part of renewing your truck/fleet registration.
The FMCSA requires all interstate carriers to file a MCS-150 or MCS-150B, if a Safety permit is required, every 24 months based on the last two digits of the US DOT number. The last digit of the number dictates the month and the second to last digit dictates the year.
FMCSA requires all entities under its jurisdiction to update their information every two years, or more often if your business information has changed.
Once the application is completed, FMCSA suggests making a copy for the companys files. Mailed applications, on average, take four to six weeks processing time.
Updates can be done online via the FMCSA online registration system with your US DOT PIN, or by filing an MCS-150 form.
