foreign [Music] video I will show you how to edit the hosts file on Ubuntu a host file is a local file that contains domain names and their matching IP addresses when your Ubuntu system makes a DNS lookup it will first check to see if there is an available entry in the hosts file if there is an entry within the file it will use the IP address specified for that hostname this is useful for example if you migrate a website to a new host and you want to work on the website without changing the DNS entries you just have to point the new IP address on the new host to the website domain in the host file we will edit the file using the Nano editor enter the following command [Music] just enter the IP address in the corresponding hostname [Music] so when you want to access the host you have entered the system will use this IP address in the file to save the file just press Ctrl then X and enter y for yes then press enter let us run the command again to see if the information was saved thanks f
