Footnote or endnote numbers in the text should follow punctuation, and preferably be placed at the end of a sentence. When citing the source for a quotation, the number should be placed at the end of the quotation and not after the authors name if that appears first in the text.
One-step footnotes Place your cursor in the text and right-click. Select Insert Footnote and type your footnote text. A reference number is placed in the text and your footnote appears at the bottom of the text frame.
Create footnotes Place the insertion point where you want the footnote reference number to appear. Choose Type Insert Footnote. Type the footnote text.
Actual or alternate text may only be applied if the character is not read properly by the assistive technology. Footnotes or endnotes must be placed in a tag. The reference character is placed in a label and the body of the note is placed in a tag. Each Note must have a unique ID.
