If youre coming from a word processing background, this question makes a lot of sense. While you can certainly have a header or footer, InDesign approaches this function using something called master pages. In this video were going to set up a simple footer using the master page approach. To really dive into all that master pages have to offer, you can check out our many articles on InDesignSecrets.com. All right. In this document we have, by default, one master page. Master Page A. Double-click on its thumbnail in the Pages panel to jump to that page. On this master page is where well put all of our footer info. In this sample, Ill create a text frame. And then Ive cheated and I have my footer information already in my clipboard. Point to the document, click the arrow that appears, and then click Edit in Microsoft Office program name. For example, click Edit in Microsoft Office Word. In the document, workbook, or presentation, right-click the label, and then click Lock Label on the shortcut menu.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and double-click on your footer. It should now read Footer -Section 2-. Click on Link to Previous in the ribbon. This button should be deselected to ensure that the footers are different in each section.
In most cases, when you cant edit the header or footer, the reason is that the content isnt supported for editing in Word Online.

If you notice the page count starts over, it could be because you set up a section break with a different number scheme. You can remove the section break, but theres an alternative. Click the File tab and then click Info in the left pane. Click Protect Document and choose Restrict Editing from the dropdown (Figure C). Word will return to the document and display the editing options in the Restrict Editing pane. Check the second option and choose No Changes (Read Only) from the dropdown (Figure D).
To keep the footnote together in Word: Press Ctrl+Shift+S to Apply Styles. Footnote Text. Click Modify. Click Format. Select Paragraph. Under Line and Page Breaks tab. Check box by Keep lines together. Click OK.
