To password protect a PDF file on your Mac, double-click the file, then go to File > Export. You can rename the document if desired. Check the box beside "Encrypt," enter a password, and click Save. The password will be needed to open the new file. This is useful for sending sensitive information. To email the encrypted PDF, right-click or control-click the icon, choose Share > Email, and don't include the password in the same email. It's better to call or text the recipient the password.
