[Music] hello its mark here from excelofthegrid.com in this video were looking at how we can stop our column widths of a table changing when we refresh a query from power query so lets head over into excel here i have a table that has been loaded from a query and this table is based on these parameters up here now when i change one of these parameters so if i change it to income for example and then go to data and click refresh all as youll see the width of that column changes so let me show you that again refresh all so our tables the column widths can change which if were using this table for reporting can be a frustration because we want to make sure that we keep our column widths the same the good news is theres an easy way to resolve this so with my cell selected inside my table and come up to the table design ribbon and then click properties the external data properties dialog box opens up now theres some useful things in here there is a an option to include a row number

Set a column to a specific width Select the column or columns that you want to change. On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click Format. Under Cell Size, click Column Width. In the Column width box, type the value that you want. Click OK.
If you dont want AutoFit to automatically adjust your table or column width, you can turn it off. Select your table. On the Layout tab, in the Cell Size group, click AutoFit. Click Fixed Column Width.
To change the width of the cells, just place the cursor on the boundary on the right side of the column heading, When it changes to a double-headed arrow, drag it to the right to widen the cells or to the left to narrow them.
