How to locate required field resolution

A common question in many of the trainings I teach is: Should I mark the required fields in a form? If most fields in the form are required, should we still mark them? The short answer is: yes. Its best to have such a specification next to every single required field instead of just having a message such as, All fields are required, or All fields are required unless otherwise indicated at the top of the page or no message at all. Most of the time, people dont read small or even large font instructions at the top of a form. When they see a form, they often just jump into filling it. Even when people read such instructions, they might forget the instructions if they happen to be interrupted while they fill out the form. You might think that it will be more efficient to just mark the optional fields, since there are fewer. Unfortunately, to determine that a field is required, people will have to scan the entire form and check for any optional fields. That is not going to happe

You can set a field required by adding a field configuration and a field configuration scheme. Its the same as with mapping workflows to issue types. You create the field configuration where you mark your specific fields as required, and in the field configuration scheme, you map it to an issue type.
Resolution Locate your Workflow: Issues Workflows. Click Edit under Actions for your workflow. Select your Done transition, and Click POST Functions. Click Add POST Function Select Update Issue Field Select Resolution for Issue Field and the appropriate Field Value.
Resolution Field cant be made optional. DO NOT put the field on any screen except the one presented in the transition where it is to be set. Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of Unresolved, which means the field is NULL in the database.
When you make a field required, people must enter an answer to the field in order to submit their entry. When someone tries to submit an entry without filling out a required field, we highlight the problematic fields and display an error message to let them know the field is required.
The Resolution field is an important feature in Jira. It specifies the reason an issue is closed and removes the need of having multiple statuses with the purpose of stating why the issue is closed, thus capturing important data for your team while reducing the time you have to manage your workflow.
Required fields should be indicated with either a symbol or text, not just color. When providing an indicator for a required field, it should be placed right before the form field. This allows a screen reader to read the indicator to a screen reader user right before the user activates the field.
Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of Unresolved, which means the field is NULL in the database. It is ALWAYS required when it appears on the screen. ONLY display it on the screen during a transition to the status where you want it set.
The required attribute tells the browser to only submit the form if the field in question is filled out. Obviously, this means that the field cant be left empty, but it also means that, depending on other attributes or the fields type, only certain types of values will be accepted.
Resolution is a system Field and its always mandatory. You cannot make it optional from Configuration scheme. You need to remove it from create/edit screen and try creating a task. Try removing it and create a new task.
To make a field mandatory when used through Jiras user interface, click the Required link associated with that field. The text Required appears next to the fields name. Hidden fields cannot be set as required. To make a field optional, click the Optional link associated with that field.
