If you take a photo of yourself, edit and upload it to a social media site, you own the copyright in that image. If another business uses it without your permission, that is copyright infringement. On the other hand, if a third party or agency photographs you, you may not own the copyright in the image.
There is no law preventing people from taking photographs in public. This includes taking photos of other peoples children. If you are taking photographs from private land, you need to have the land owners permission.

As a photographer, can I allow someone else to use my photo without giving up my copyright? Of course! This grant of permission is called a license. By means of a license, a copyright owner allows another person to use a photo without giving up their copyright, usually in exchange for the payment of royalties.
As long as someone is on their private property they deserve 100% privacy, avoid photographing private property. The privacy rule also applies on or in any property or building of a company or organisation. If a company or organisation holds a public event on their premises, still always ask for permission.
If youre a photographer, there are a few key things to know about copyright law and the protections available to you. First, copyright protects original works of authorship, including original photographs. A work is original if it is independently created and is sufficiently creative.
If a photo was taken in a private setting, such as a home or office, you should assume you need permission before you post or publish any image showing identifiable people. Contact everyone recognizable in the photo and ask for a release.
