Here are some core tips for building user-friendly exhibit lists and exhibits for trial. #1: Know the rules. #2: Have enough copies on hand for trial. #3: Make your exhibits easy for use in court. #4: Make sure your internal exhibit list is user-friendly. #5: Think about objections to each item on the list.
Each exhibit must be marked with an abbreviated designation for the party offering the exhibit (followed by the abbreviation Ex. for exhibit).
Heres an example of what that might look like: I, Jane Smith, swear that the information in my sworn statement is truthful to the best of my knowledge and understanding. Your statement of truth must be in the first person and you need to identify yourself in it.
✓ If you are the plaintiff, use a yellow sticker. ✓ If you are the defendant, use a blue sticker. Once you have put stickers on the first pages of all of your exhibits, place the exhibits in an order you like. Once you have them in the order you like, you need to write a number or letter on each sticker.
If the exhibit has a letter identifying it, it means its been used by the defense. If the exhibit has a number associated with it, it means its been used by the plaintiff.
Step 1: Decide what the title of your affidavit will be. Step 2: Put the name and personal background information of the person giving the information in the first paragraph. Step 3: Write an opening sentence in the first person tense. Step 4: Make an outline of the information given or state the facts of the case.
Attaching An Exhibit Each exhibit should be given a letter and referred to in alphabetical order. The first exhibit you refer to in the affidavit will be lettered A, the second, B, and so on. References to the exhibit should be typed in bold. Attach all your exhibits at the end of your affidavit.
How to write an affidavit Write the heading AFFIDAVIT. State your name and personal details (i.e. ID number, gender, address, contact details, etc.). State that you are making a declaration under oath (i.e. I, the undersigned, declare the following under oath).
