The quickest way to vectorize an image is using the Image Trace feature. Choose the High Fidelity Photo option will get you a vector image most similar to the original raster image. If you want to make a vector graphic, the pen tool would be a better choice because you have more flexibility to make it your style.
Select the source image and open the Image Trace panel via Window Image Trace. Alternatively you can select a preset from the Control panel (by selecting from the small menu to the right of the Trace button) or the Properties panel (by clicking the Image trace button and then selecting from the menu).
Vector programs are drawing programs, so converting a photograph to vector format means making a drawing based on the photo. We do not recommend Photo to Vector conversion unless what you expect is precisely that; a drawing and not a more realistic representation such as a photograph.
With the Image Trace function, you can vectorize pixel-based images automatically in Illustrator. People often refer to this kind of function as Autotracing. The results depend on the nature, quality, and size of the source image and the settings you choose in Illustrator.
What is Image Trace? In computer graphics, Image Tracing is the process of converting raster files into vector files. Similarly, Image Trace in docHub Illustrator converts raster images into editable vector images.
