There are two levels of insurance broker licensed with the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario: Level 1: You have passed the entry level exam.
RIBO or OTL? Both the RIBO (Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario) and OTL (Other Than Life) license allow you to sell home and auto insurance in Ontario, however the OTL qualifies you to be an Insurance Agent while the RIBO license qualifies you to be an Insurance Broker.
The OTL is a closed book exam containing 100 multiple choice questions to be answered within the 2 hour time limit. Students need a 75% to pass.
Your application to FSRA will need to include: A copy of the full set of Articles of Incorporation, including the first certificate page. A copy of any amendments or amalgamation documents. Information about your directors and officers.
Your FSRA licence is your authorization to receive payment directly from auto insurers for listed expenses resulting from statutory accident benefit claims.
Registering for the OTL Exam Before applying for your general insurance agent license in Ontario, you must successfully pass a qualifying exam known as the Other Than Life (OTL) Agents Exam. Passing the Other Than Life (OTL) Agents Exam is just one of the requirements needed to receive the Agents License.
The fee to apply for a new general licence is $150. This fee will cover the first two years of your licence.
You must obtain a minimum of 75% on the exam to pass.
