okay so first of all this is the document that I have been working on in the previous videos and in this video Im going to show you how to make cross references in Word so Im going to go to references and then cross reference and then Im going to select figure and Im going to select only label and number and then insert and close and you can see it has inserted the label figure one and if I hold down ctrl and click on it it will take me to figure 1 in the document and I can also put this in brackets if I want to or I can manually edit this to say fig dot 1 and then if I hold down ctrl and click on it it will still take me to figure 1 in the document so I can change this to say whatever I want now another way of doing this is to go to insert and select cross reference here instead and then there are a number of other options for the reference type and also for the text to insert I am just going to show a couple more examples of this so if I select above slash below and then insert

Click in the body section of your document (i.e. not the header or footer). Press Ctrl-A to select all paragraphs. Press F9 to update all cross-references. (This will also update other fields in your document, such as the table of contents.)
Cause. This problem occurs because, when you create a cross-reference link, a hidden bookmark is created at the beginning of the heading. When you split the heading, the bookmark does not move.
Cross References are Fields and there are 3 settings in File Options Advanced Show document content Field shading. You can set that control to Always and all Fields in the document will automatically be shaded.
Place your cursor in the document at the position you want the reference. Then click on the Insert reference button at the bottom of the sidebar. Now you have inserted A Smart Reference.
Create a hyperlink to a location in the current document Select the text or picture that you want to display as a hyperlink. Press Ctrl+K. You can also right-click the text or picture and click Link on the shortcut menu. Under Link to, click Place in This Document.
Highlight the desired text. Right-click it, and select Link. Open the Headings drop-down menu, and choose the heading you want to link to. Click Apply to create the link.
Insert the cross-reference In the document, type the text that begins the cross-reference. On the Insert tab, click Cross-reference. In the Reference type box, click the drop-down list to pick what you want to link to. In the Insert reference to box, click the information you want inserted in the document.
