The qualifying session is split into three parts, called Q1, Q2, and Q3. Q1 is 18 minutes long, followed by a seven minute break. Q2 is 15 minutes long, followed by an eight minute break. Q3 is 12 minutes long.
The position of each car on the grid is decided based on the performance of these drivers in the qualifying session. The qualifying session is 45 minutes and is divided into 3 parts - Q1, Q2 and Q3.
Typically, qualifying is held over three sessions, known as Q1, Q2, and Q3. In Q1, all the drivers have a chance to set a lap time, with the slowest drivers being eliminated. In Q2, the remaining drivers have another chance to set a lap time, with the slowest drivers being eliminated again.
Each race weekend will see 15 drivers compete in three races, with grids set during a pair of 15-minute qualifying sessions. The grid for race one will be set by the first qualifying session and race three by the second. Race twos starting order will be the finish of race one with the top eight reversed.
In Formula 1, qualifying is a process that determines the starting order for the race. The drivers have a limited amount of time to complete as many laps as possible, with the fastest lap time determining their starting position. Typically, qualifying is held over three sessions, known as Q1, Q2, and Q3.
