Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Im going to show you how to create a custom, intertwined, monogram logo centered on a simple, but powerful background. If the middle initial of the monogram is larger than the other two, the middle initial is the surname or last name. The first initial is the first name and the last initial is the middle name. However, if all the initials are the same size, the order of the initials represents the first, middle and last name. I provided a link to a website that explains the general rules pertaining to monograms. The link is located in the video description. Create a new document by pressing Ctrl + N on Windows or Cmd + N on a Mac. Make the Width: 1200 pixels, the Height: 900 pixels and the Resolution: 300 pixels per inch. Make the Color Mode: RGB at 8 bits per channel. Then click OK. Lets begin by making the background first. Open your Gradient Tool and make sure the Linear gradient icon is highlighted. Traditionally, a monogram reads First Name Initial, Last Name Initial, Middle Name or Maiden Name Initial. With the Last Name Initial being the larger Middle Initial. For example, if you had the name Kelsie Elizabeth Vogds, her monogram would read KVE.
Initials are the capital letters which begin each word of a name. For example, if your full name is Michael Dennis Stocks, your initials will be M. D. S.

A traditional 3 letter monogram is the persons first name initial on the left, the last name initial in the middle larger, and the middle name initial on the right. If the monogram is for a married woman, it has been traditional to substitute her maiden name initial for her middle name initial on the right.
Initials require no periods when someone has come to be known by initials alone (JFK, LBJ, etc.). Mary Jane is MJ. However, formal manuscripts probably need the periods.
Traditional Monogram For an individual, the order of initials is the first name, last name, and middle name. The last name initial (center) is larger than those on either side.
Traditionally, the first letters of their first, last and middle name are used, in that order. For couples, if they share their last name, the last name remains in the middle with the initials of their first names on the left and right side.
Monogram for two middle of first names You stack the initials together on whatever side the two initials go on. If its two for the first name then it goes on the left. If its two on the middle name they go on the right, or two last names they go big in the middle not stacked (just side by side!)

In most cases, the womans first name initial comes first, followed by the shared last name initial, and finally the mans first initial. Elizabeth Brown Smith and Charles William Smith would use ESC as their joint monogram, with the center initial being slightly larger than the other two.
