hi in this tutorial I want to show you how to create run on footnotes and useful work to lay them out automatically in this chapter weve got regular InDesign footnotes here so the first thing to do is to run the detach script to separate them into a separate story I do that by selecting some text in the main text Im just running double-clicking of the detach footnote script in the scripts panel thats done here are all the footnotes theyve been copied over to separate story separate text frame now I want to make all of these footnotes run on footnotes the first thing to do is to just lets select this space and the right indent character that comes afterwards which is a leftover from the layout as it was before open the find change just paste those two characters special characters in there replaces with a space change at all in the story in the entire story change all you wont always have to do this step because it depends on how the layout was previously but now what Ive got is

Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
How do I cite the same source many times? Use a shortened form of the citation. Lets say you wrote a footnote (or endnote) for this book after you quoted from page 32: Cite the page number in the text. Use an abbreviation. Use ibid.
In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. The footnote might consist of the type of work and authors name along with other information related to the type of citation.
The abbreviation ibid (meaning in the same place) can be used to repeat a citation in the immediately preceding footnote. Never italicize or capitalise ibid. In the above example, ibid is followed by a page number (6), which means in the same work, but this time on page 6.
Paraphrasing. When you write information or ideas from a source in your own words, cite the source by adding a footnote number at the end of the paraphrased portion. The footnote number should be in superscript, and be placed after any punctuation, like this: This is a paraphrase.
If you are citing a primary source (e.g. a case) and a secondary source (e.g. a book) in the same footnote, put the primary source before the secondary source, separated by a semi-colon.
