Creating Table of Contents. It can be done using a few simple commands. Changing the Title. First, we give the initial title using \title{initial title} command and then it can be altered using the command \renewcommand*\contentsname{new command} and hence changing the default value. Generally, the table of contents includes chapters, sections, and subsection. You are also allowed to add entries manually in LaTeX. This is generally done to add the unnumbered sections. To do so, just add the \addcontentsline command, as shown in the above example.
The List of Figures is placed immediately after the List of Tables (or if you do not have a List of Tables directly after your Table of Contents.). The List of Figures is mandatory only if there are 5 or more figures found in the document.
Adding lines to tables of contents If you wish to reinstate a line, then the command use is \addcontentsline{type}{sectionlevel}{entry}, where: type - can be toc, lof, lot depending on whether the line is to appear in the Table of Contents, List of Figures or List of Tables respectively.
Format the text in your table of contents Go to References Table of Contents Custom Table of Contents. Select Modify. In the Styles list, click the level that you want to change and then click Modify. In the Modify Style pane, make your changes. Select OK to save changes.
If even one numbered table or figure appears in your manuscript, then a List of Tables and/or a List of Figures must be included in your manuscript following the Table of Contents. If both are used, arrange the List of Tables before the List of Figures.
If you want to center some text just use \centering . If you want to align it differently you can use the environment \raggedleft for right-alignment and \raggedright for left-alignment.
Placement of Tables Figures Place all tables figures on separate pages after the reference list (with each table on a separate page followed by each figure on a separate page). Embed each table figure within the text after its first callout.
Strictly speaking, figures are illustrations, drawings, photographs, graphs, and charts. Tables are rows and columns of words and numbers; they are not considered figures. For longer reports that contain dozens of figures and tables each, create separate lists of figures and tables.
