Bourbon Whiskey The Old Charter story began in 1874, when Adam and Ben Chapeze named their whiskey after the Charter Oak tree that grew on Wyllys Hyll in Hartford, Connecticut. A 600-year old symbol, the Charter Oak represents American freedom and independence.
Aged twelve years at Buffalo Trace Distillery, this bourbon is rich and sweet, drawing its character from barrels made of French Oak. An oak that has long been used for aging the worlds finest wine, the tighter grain of French Oak impart more subtle flavors and a silkier texture than its American counterpart.
The collection was sold off in the 1980s after Schenleys founder, Louis Rosenstiel sold the company. The brand became part of the United Distillers portfolio in 1987. United Distillers introduced the 13 year old Old Charter Proprietors Reserve in 1994 as part of their Bourbon Heritage Collection.
