How it works. The word concatenate is just another way of saying to combine or to join together. The CONCATENATE function allows you to combine text from different cells into one cell. In our example, we can use it to combine the text in column A and column B to create a combined name in a new column.
Combine text from two or more cells into one cell Select the cell where you want to put the combined data. Type = and select the first cell you want to combine. Type and use quotation marks with a space enclosed. Select the next cell you want to combine and press enter. An example formula might be =A2 B2.
Combine text from different cells into a single cell using Ampersand () Select the target cell where you want to combine your text cells, for example A3. Type = and select the first cell you want to join. Next, type and select the next cell you want to combine. Press enter.
Method 1. Press CTRL to select multiple cells Select a cell where you want to enter the formula. Type =CONCATENATE( in that cell or in the formula bar. Press and hold Ctrl and click on each cell you want to concatenate. Release the Ctrl button, type the closing parenthesis, and press Enter.
Lets say you want to create a single Full Name column by combining two other columns, First Name and Last Name. To combine first and last names, use the CONCATENATE function or the ampersand () operator.
Concatenation is the process of appending one string to the end of another string. You concatenate strings by using the + operator. For string literals and string constants, concatenation occurs at compile time; no run-time concatenation occurs. For string variables, concatenation occurs only at run time.
How to combine data using the CONCAT function (Best Method) Choose a cell for the combined data to be placed. Please type =CONCAT(. Choose the cell you would like to combine first. Add spaces, commas, or other text. Use quotation marks to separate the cells you are combining. Enter the formula within parenthesis.
To apply the TEXTJOIN function, we need to follow these steps: Select cell D3 and click on it. Insert the formula: =TEXTJOIN( , TRUE, B3, C3) Press enter. Drag the formula down to the other cells in the column by clicking and dragging the little + icon at the bottom-right of the cell.
