Ibid. may be used in Chicago footnotes or endnotes. Write Ibid. alone when you are citing the same page number and source as the previous citation. When you are citing the same source, but a different page number, use ibid. For example: Ibid. Ibid., 36. Ibid., 4042.
In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. The footnote might consist of the type of work and authors name along with other information related to the type of citation.
Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
Footnote or endnote numbers in the text should follow punctuation, and preferably be placed at the end of a sentence. When citing the source for a quotation, the number should be placed at the end of the quotation and not after the authors name if that appears first in the text.
General format: Author (if applicable),Title (if applicable), Resolution or Decision number, UN Body and OR Designation, Session number or year, Supplement number, UN Document number (Date or Year) pinpoint.
When using either type of footnote, insert a number formatted in superscript following almost any punctuation mark. Footnote numbers should not follow dashes ( ), and if they appear in a sentence in parentheses, the footnote number should be inserted within the parentheses.
In your document, click where you want to insert the note reference mark. On the Insert menu, click Footnote. Under Location, click Footnotes or Endnotes, and then on the Footnotes or Endnotes pop-up menu, click the location that you want. Under Format, select the numbering options that you want, and then click Insert.
The abbreviation ibid (meaning in the same place) can be used to repeat a citation in the immediately preceding footnote. Never italicize or capitalise ibid. In the above example, ibid is followed by a page number (6), which means in the same work, but this time on page 6.
