Headers and footers can be used to display information in the top and bottom margins of your document. They can include details like the authors name, page numbers, the date, and more. To create your own header or footer from scratch, double-click the margin at the top or bottom of your document. This will unlock the header or footer area, so you can add whatever information you want. You can also use the tools on the Design tab, which will appear on the right side of the Ribbon. When youre done, you can close the header or footer using the button here, or by pressing Esc on your keyboard. If you dont have a lot of experience with headers and footers, you might want to start with a built-in preset instead. Preset headers and footers give you several different designs to choose from, so theyre a great choice for any document. Footers are located in the margin area at the bottom of a page. Headers and footers generally contain document information, such as the file name, author, date created, page numbering and the like. This information is repeated on each page and thus enables the reader to easily navigate the document.
To create a header or footer: Double-click anywhere on the top or bottom margin of your document. In our example, well double-click the top margin. The header or footer will open, and a Design tab will appear on the right side of the Ribbon. The insertion point will appear in the header or footer.
Go to Insert Header or Footer. Choose from a list of standard headers or footers, go to the list of Header or Footer options, and select the header or footer that you want. Or, create your own header or footer by selecting Edit Header or Edit Footer. When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
To open the Header Footer ribbon, press Alt+N, H, E. To move to the ribbon, press Alt+J, H.
Add Your Footer Image Requirements: JPG, PNG, or GIF, and less than 2MB in size. We recommend a 2400px width and 500px height.
