How to type special characters and symbols on a Chromebook Open the app that you want to type special characters in. On your keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + U at the same time, and let go. When the underlined U appears, type the code for the symbol you want to use. Press the Enter key.
Developer mode: To enter Developer Mode, first enter recovery mode, then press Ctrl + D , followed by Enter to accept. Note that Developer Mode disables security features and may leave your device open to attack.
Press Ctrl+Shift+U in a text input field. (This should give you an underlined u(u), which indicates your Chromebook is ready to accept Unicode codes.) 2. Enter a character code directly after the u (Ex. u00e1).
The keyboard shortcut Launcher + period has been changed. To use the Insert key, press Launcher + Shift + Backspace key. I had thought that keyboard shortcuts could not be changed on Chromebooks until now, but they have indeed been changed.
The key on the Chromebooks keyboard that is in approximately the same physical position as the Windows key is on the Windows keyboard is part of the combination of keys to switch input method, so that SHIFT-2 produces the desired @ graphic when the current input method is US-English or UK-English.
