welcome to the brain tech video tutorials my name is Greg owner of brain tech and today Im going to show you an easy way to add an automatic date into Microsoft Word so Ive got a word document here and what were going to do is Im going to add an automatic date to this word document in the documents footer so first were gonna get into the footer were going to just double click down here at the bottom of the page and when we do that it opens up the footer option were going to come up here to the insert at the top of the bar here and in the text grouping were going to pick this icon here that is insert date and time and you can see it looks like a little calendar with a clock on it when we do that it gives us these options were going to pick along with it just pick this one and Im going to make sure that this box here to update automatically is already checked wait click OK it puts my date down there Im going to go back to the Home tab and Im going to move that to the right s

Inserting the current date using the Date Time command Click in the document where you want to insert the date: Click the Insert tab in the Ribbon. Select Date Time in the Text group. Click the date in the format that you want. Select the Update automatically check box to insert a dynamic date field. Click OK.
Click where you want to insert the date or time. In the Categories box, select Date and Time. In the Field names box, select CreateDate, PrintDate, or SaveDate. In the Date formats box, select the date and time format that you want for example, 2/12/2017 9:45 PM or 12 February 2017.
Click the Insert tab in the Ribbon. On the Insert tab, click the Date Time option. Select the date or time format you want to insert in the document.
How to change date format in Microsoft Word document Open the merge document in Microsoft Word. From the Insert drop-down menu, select Date/Time. Select the appropriate format. Click OK. Save and close the merge document.
To insert the current date, press Ctrl+; (semi-colon). To insert the current time, press Ctrl+Shift+; (semi-colon). To insert the current date and time, press Ctrl+; (semi-colon), then press Space, and then press Ctrl+Shift+; (semi-colon).
To insert the date type Alt + Shift + D . To change the time or date format hit Alt + N + D , click on or scroll to the one you want and use the key combo Alt + D . Hit Enter twice. Save this answer.
To insert the current date using a keyboard shorcut, press Alt + Shift + D to insert the Date field in a content control. This will insert the Date field which will update automatically. This is not a shortcut for the Date / Time dialog box and is not affected by settings in the dialog box.
