Use the DATEDIF function when you want to calculate the difference between two dates. First put a start date in a cell, and an end date in another.Calculate age in accumulated years, months, and days Use DATEDIF to find the total years. Use DATEDIF again with ym to find months. Use a different formula to find days.
In such a case, we must navigate the Home tab Number Format drop-down select General instead of Date. Another useful method to calculate the age in Excel involves using the YEARFRAC function. It is an easy-to-use Excel function and is often used to calculate ages in years.
The method of calculating age involves the comparison of a persons date of birth with the date on which the age needs to be calculated. The date of birth is subtracted from the given date, which gives the age of the person. Age = Given date - Date of birth.
Enter the date of birth into cell A2. Enter the TODAY function into cell B2 to return todays date. The DATEDIF function below calculates the age of a person. Note: fill in y for the third argument to get the number of complete years between the date of birth and todays date.
Use of the Today Function to Automatically Update an Age Calculation in Excel. If you want your age formula to calculate the age of an individual on the current date, and to update automatically each day, this can be done using the Excel Today function, which returns the current date.
=int(YEARFRAC(A1,today())) Youll add the birth date to cell A1 and paste the formula into B1 for the result. Well use the birth date 11/04/1983: The result is 35 years of age. Simple, just like when using the DATEDIF function for a single cell.
Copy the example data in the following table, and paste it in cell A1 of a new Excel worksheet. For formulas to show results, select them, press F2, and then press Enter.Example. FormulaDescriptionResult=TODAY()Returns the current date.12/1/20114 more rows
