To remove a password from a PDF file, we will use the PDF to PostScript (pdftops) tool and the Ghostscript PostScript-to-PDF Converter to convert the postscript file back to an unprotected PDF file. The xpdf-utils package may already be installed if youre using the latest version of Ubuntu.
How to remove PDF passwords. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro on Windows or Mac. Choose Tools Encrypt Remove Security. If the document has a Document Open password, click OK to remove it. If the document has a permissions password, type the correct password in the Enter Password box and then click OK.
In the Security tab, choose the No Security option from the Security Method drop-down menu and then save the file without password protection.
