hey guys Callum back here with inside-out precision and today I want to talk to you guys about releases specifically index style releases so these are going to be the most common for bowhunters by far if youre just starting out in archery its probably what youre going to learn on and theres a lot of different brands out there with different models of releases so Im going to go over some of the brands we sell here at the shop and the difference between dual calipers single caliper hook style and some of the features that I really look for in a release to ensure a forgiving and and clean shot execution so starting kind of at the bottom end of the price point anyway this is the true fire smoke we sell this for 59.99 its a great beginning release it is a dual caliper and when I say dual caliper I mean when I squeeze the trigger and let go both of those jaws open and close around my string loop and well theres not a big difference in accuracy between a dual caliper or single or hoo

There are many versions of archery release aids, but the four most common types are: wrist strap index finger release, handheld thumb trigger release, handheld hinge release and the handheld resistance/tension type release.
The vast majority of bowhunters who shoot compound bows use a release aid to loose the arrow. And the vast majority of those use a wrist-strap, index-finger release. Most archers shot firearms long before they picked up a bow, and using the index finger to pull the trigger just seems natural to them.
For hunting, most folks would do well to shoot a thumb button or an index release, as both have triggers and both are easy to operate in the heat of the moment.
Levi Morgans Tournament Rig Bow - Mathews TRX 40. Arrows Gold Tip Triple X. Sight - Axcel. Lens - 5x. Peep - Hamskea Archery. Rest - QAD Tri. Stabilizer - prototype 30 12 Nock - GTO.
Broadwater Signature Series. Tension release, by simply adjusting a single screw. thumb trigger at full draw to activate the shot.
Index Release An index release is what most people begin their archery journey using. A shooter attaches the release to their wrist with a wrist strap, adjusting it so that the trigger sits at the first knuckle of their index finger.
Well, it seems this group of bowhunters is discovering they shoot much more consistently with a handheld thumb release than with a wrist-strap, index-finger release. The reason is simple: The thumb is inherently less sensitive to trigger feel, and this is whats needed to free the archers mind for precision shooting.
It doesnt. That is to say, unless you choose to physically change the draw length of your bow. Changing to a release, or changing the size or length of your release will change your anchor point, not your draw length. Some people will actually change their draw length to try and keep the same or similar anchor point.
Thumb release aids actually hold a pretty cool feature that allows one to clip the release onto a D-loop, and just let it hang right there. This is especially handy(no pun intended) for when you might find yourself hunting from a ground blind or treestand.
Drawing the bow back is also generally easier with a handheld release like the thumb button. Further, many of these thumb button releases give a hunter the ability to attach the release to the D-loop and just let it hang. This is a great feature for ambush hunting.
