The first two numbers indicate the week, while the last two indicate the year. (For example, a tire with the number 2910 was manufactured in the 29th week of 2010.)
In terms of the DOT Date Code, some might assume that the number states when the tire was approved. On the contrary, the DOT symbol by itself simply indicates that the tire is approved by the Department of Transportation to be legally used on the road.
Tires made in the United States have the DOT serial number located on the inside sidewall near the rim. The letters DOT are followed by eight to thirteen letters and/or numbers that identify where the tire was manufactured, tire size and the manufacturers code, along with the week and year the tire was manufactured.
At present, the DOT code begins with three letters: DOT. Those letters are followed by two alphanumeric symbols that represent the Plant code, or where the tire was manufactured. The last three numbers represent the week and the year in which the tire was manufactured.
How to Read the Tire Date Code? Look at the sidewall of your tire there will be a code following the letters DOT for Department of Transportation. There will be up to 13 characters that give you the information you need to identify your tire and also identify the date of manufacture of your tires.
The DOT code consists of the manufacturers plant code, the tire size, brand and the week/year the tire was made. The DOT number is stamped on both sides of the tire sidewall and can be found by looking for the DOT designation on the sidewall.
The DOT symbol certifies the tire manufacturers compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) tire safety performance standards. Next to these letters is the tire identification number (TIN) - also known as the tire serial number.
The final four digits on your DOT number will tell you the tires age. The first two numbers of this grouping indicate the week of the year your tire was manufactured. The final two digits indicate the year that your tire was manufactured.
The DOT code consists of the manufacturers plant code, the tire size, brand and the week/year the tire was made. The DOT number is stamped on both sides of the tire sidewall and can be found by looking for the DOT designation on the sidewall.
