Open your PDF in Acrobat. Click and drag the cursor to select the area of text you want to highlight. A small toolbox will appear above your text. Select the highlighter tool icon and it will automatically highlight your selected text.
The Text Selection tool may not be selected: Choose Tools Text Selection, or click the Show Markup Toolbar button , then click the Text Selection button . The PDF may require a password before you can select or copy text: Choose Tools Show Inspector, click the Encryption Inspector button , then enter the password.
The most common reason that you cant highlight PDF documents is because the document doesnt actually contain any real text. Instead, it contains scanned text, which is essentially an image of the text. In this case, you wont be able to highlight, underline, strikethrough, or edit this text in any way.
Copying text from scanned PDF and images Upload your PDF to the OCR converter and turn your scanned PDF into a searchable PDF. You can then copy text from the PDF file instantly. Youll also have the option to convert the scanned PDF to a text file directly and you can then copy the text from the file as needed.
How to Highlight Text in a PDF on Mac Open the PDF document in Highlights. From the menu bar choose File Open. Select the text you want to markup. This will bring up the selection popover: Choose a color and click the highlight button in the selection popover.
If you cannot highlight or select text in a PDF, the file might probably be a scanned copy and cannot be edited. How can you tell whether a copy was scanned? Its simple; the alignment of the text will be off, the pages borders wont be in the same place, and some text will be zoomed in more than others.
